Guthrie Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson was unanimously approved by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) board to serve as board president for the 2020-21 school year.
The 12-0 vote came Wednesday morning during the OSSAA board of directors meeting.
“It’s a honor and a responsibility,” Simpson said in a phone interview with Guthrie News Page.
Simpson was seated on the board in August 2013 and is serving this school year as vice-president for the state-wide board.
“We got a strong board and solid leadership for the whole time I’ve been on and hope that I can carry on with the others that I have followed.”
Simpson says the OSSAA will likely be challenged next year after the loss of state basketball tournament and spring sports revenue this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but stated with reserved funds they will begin to build back for the future to help student-athletes across the state.
The board also approved, unanimously, Rusty Puffinbarger, the superintendent for Leedy Public Schools) as the vice president for the board.
