The Suburban Conference announced their 2011-2012 all basketball boys conference teams and award winners.
The conference qualified four members for the state tournament, including the overall top seed in the Carl Albert Titans. Guthrie, El Reno and Piedmont also advanced to the last week of the season.
The BlueJays were represented with the naming of head coach Pete Papahronis as the Coach of the Year. Papahronis has his program back in the state tournament for the first time since 2009. Papahronis has now taken five of his nine teams, at Guthrie, to the big dance where he has a 6-2 record and two 5A state titles.
Sophomore guard Kai Callins was named to the first team all conference team by averaging 11.5 points and helping lead the team to a 16-10 record despite a tough regular season schedule.
Senior forward Shron Parker was named to the all defensive and honorable mention teams. Senior Codee Gross and junior Jerrick Warren were also named to the honorable mention team.
Overall, Guthrie finished third overall in conference play with a 7-2 record. Both Carl Albert and Deer Creek finished 8-1.
Way to go gentlemen! It has been a pleasure watching and cheering you guys on to victory this year. You have an excellent team coach Papahronis and you are a fantastic leader. Good luck at the state tournament. Your defense is top notch and it will keep you in it to win it. Go Guthrie!!
