The Guthrie softball team had plenty of offense on Wednesday in the Class 5A regional in Guthrie, but pitching in the circle was exceptionally good and now has the Lady Jays one win from the State tournament.
The Lady Jays hosted the first day of the regional for the first time since 1998 and took advantage with a 23-0 win over Santa Fe South in game one and a 5-1 over Del City in game four.
With the two wins, Guthrie needs one win in two tries to advance to next week’s state tournament.
Trinity LeGrande shut down Santa Fe South by throwing a complete game shutout.
Guthrie secured 12 runs in the first inning to eliminate any doubt.
Karrah Dean, as she has all season long, lifted the softball over the outfield fence in the first inning.
In total, Guthrie finished with 18 hits.
If the win and pitching performance was not enough, Dean showcased dominance against Del City by pitching a no-hitter in the win over Del City.
Maybe more impressive than the no-hitter was Dean striking out 16 batters Lady Eagles she faced in seven innings.
On offense, Guthrie got things started in the second inning when Taylor Bolding doubled to bring in the first run of the game.
Guthrie, who has now won seven straight games, improves to 22-5 on the year and awaits the winner between Del City and Ardmore (12 p.m.) on Thursday. Guthrie will take the field for a scheduled 2 p.m. start.
Game One: Guthrie 23 – Santa Fe South 0
