With their goals still in front of them, the Guthrie Bluejays will make a trip to western Oklahoma and take on the Woodward Boomers in a District 5A-2 challenge.
The game can be heard on 93.7 FM beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame shows.
The Bluejays have started the season with a 5-0 record and prepare to take on the second half of the regular season.
The defense has been stellar by allowing 11 points a game and creating 19 turnovers (10 interceptions and 9 fumbles) with nine of those resulting directly into scores.
The Jays offense has proven to be balance with a team effort. Quarterback Jackson Waddell and Justin Adams have led the team in rushing, while Brody Hinkle, Marcellus Owens and Tahliq Jackson have led the Jays in receiving yards.
The offensive line has proven to work as a complete unit by allowing gaping holes for the running game and enough time for receivers to get open.
Guthrie will look to continue that trend in Woodward.
The Boomers enter with a 2-3 record and a 1-1 district record.
The season started with a 1-2 non-district start with a win over Elk City and losses to Clinton and Weatherford.
In district play, Woodward picked up a road win at Lawton Eisenhower before dropping a home loss to McGuinness last week.
The Boomers are looking to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2013 and if they do it will likely be because of running back Kole Marlatt.
The three-year starter, Marlatt, rushed 82 yards in the home loss last year to the Bluejays (28-3).
This season in the win over Elk City, Marlatt ran for 243 yards on 20 touches and finished with four touchdowns.
Parker Pruett, a junior, begins his second year at quarterback and was 4-of-8 passing in last year’s contest with the Jays with 121 passing yards.
Woodward’s defense is allowing 30 points per game and nearly 39 points in their two home games.
In last year’s game, the Jays tossed for only 56 yards on 13 pass attempts as they primarily used the running game to pile up 16 first downs.
Friday’s match-up will feature the 30th meeting between these two programs. The series dates back to 1976 with Guthrie holding a 15-14 series lead, including winners of the last eight meetings.
Game time is set for 7 p.m.
