An intoxicated driver took police officials on a pursuit beginning at Seward Road and ending at the Logan and Payne County line near mile marker 170 on Interstate I-35.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol began to receive calls about a reckless driver around 2:00 Thursday afternoon. A Logan County deputy attempted to pull a red pickup truck with a camper shell near Seward Road (mile marker 151) and that is when the pursuit was on. Payne County deputies also joined in on the chase.
The pursuit continued on to Highway 51 (mile marker 170) when an OHP trooper tried to stop the male driver, but instead was almost ran over forcing the trooper to fire a shot. The shot did not hit the driver.
The driver continued driving and left the interstate onto a dirt road where he eventually lost control, due to high speeds, slammed into a utility pole and eventually into a tree to end the chase.
The suspect complained of injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where his condition is unknown.
