After 35 years in the Guthrie Public School system, a Guthrie principal will be retiring at the end of the school year.
Fogarty Elementary Principal Kathy McGee informed Superintendent Terry Simpson and the school board of her decision to retire on March 1st in a written letter. The board accepted her retirement in the March 12th board meeting.
“It’s hard for me to believe I have worked thirty-five years for Guthrie Public Schools,” McGee said.
“I have worked under six superintendents since I was hired in 1977 and have seen and been involved in countless changes over the years. It has been exciting to be an active part in many of these changes which have had a positive impact on the education of our children,” the longtime educator said.
McGee knows leaving the school building will be difficult, but looks forward to more time with her family.
“I am looking forward to retirement, and spending more time with my family. However, I will carry in my heart many great memories of the wonderful people I have met and worked with, and, I will cherish the many priceless things children have said or done over the years,” McGee said.
Im so appauled by this principal, she has no respect for us soldiers, not to mention the american flag. She needs to retire because if I had seen her ball up an american flag and toss it in the corner without folding it, bad things wouldve happend. If one of her friends or family had died to protect the rights that that flag offers she wouldn’t disrepct it. I beleive that she needs to spend time in jail folding sheets so that when she gets out she will know how to fold a damn flag and respect it.

THE STORY
I took Casey to Tiff’s school for her parent-teacher conference. Here we are sitting on a bench right inside the door to the school and what do we see??? THe US Flag carelessly folded and bunch up on the bench. Now tip number one- fold it properly! The Flag deserves that much. But then on top of it is the Oklahoma State flag folded nice and neat. I went from livid to seeing red in about .2 seconds. Casey being the awesome sister that she is, says something to the principle. The principle brushed it off, saying the custodians do not know how to fold it and it isn’t that big of a deal. Kathleen said and I quote “To someone who has seen friends go home draped in that coffin, it is a rather big deal. Teach them how to do it!” The principle walks out and grabs the flags keeping the OK flag folded nicely and basically crumpling the US Flag into a ball and throws it on a chair in her office. She walked back out and said “Sorry” and left the flag crumpled. Never in my life have I been so disappointed in a human being as I was tonight.
