Rain showers continued Sunday in Guthrie, dampening the drought-stricken area with more than three inches of rain. With the rainfall, the city-wide burn ban has been lifted.
Over Saturday and Sunday, the Oklahoma Mesonet site in Guthrie received 3.39 inches of rain. The highest rain amounts added up across the I-35 corridor and to the west.
The much-needed rain has allowed Guthrie Fire Chief Eric Harlow to lift the city-wide burn ban that had been in effect since June 27 for a total of 104 days. Governor Mary Fallin amended the county burn ban in late September.
Citizens wanting to burn will still need to contact the fire department at (405) 282-4433 to obtain a burn permit prior to burning. Burning without a permit is punishable by a $500 fine.
The sun is expected to return as the week continues, with temperatures topping out in the mid to upper 70s during the days and falling into the mid-50s at night through Friday.
