OKLAHOMA CITY – Representatives Scott Biggs, John Pfeiffer and Casey Murdock today issued a joint statement praising former Oklahoma Attorney General and current U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (APA) Administrator Scott Pruitt on his help to rescind the Clean Water Rule of 2015, also known as Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS).
During a Senate Appropriations hearing Tuesday, Pruitt announced his agency, together with the Army Corps of Engineers, will submit a proposed rule to repeal and replace the existing WOTUS rule, implemented by the Obama-era EPA, to the Federal Registry. The action by the EPA follows an executive order signed by President Trump in February, which instructed the agency to review the WOTUS rule.
“The Clean Water Rule is a classic example of government overreach,” said Biggs, R-Chickasha; Pfeiffer, R-Orlando and Murdock, R-Felt. “This should have always remained a state’s rights issue. Our residents, farmers, ranchers and local business owners have a vested interest in keeping our local waterways clean and know best how to regulate themselves. We’re encouraged that Scott Pruitt sees the value of returning rights to the local level.”
