Reward being offered for more than 20 abandoned dogs

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office and Friends of Guthrie Animals are looking for information as to who left behind more than 20 dogs alongside a county road. A $1,000 reward is being offered.Last Friday, deputies responded to Backhaus Road, north of Industrial Road, for a report of abandoned dogs.

Once they arrived, rescuers from Friends of Guthrie Animals (FOGAS) were already capturing some of the animals. Deputies assisted rescuers with five dogs in a nearby wooded area. Prior to the deputies, FOGAS was able to locate several more in the same area.

Deputies say the animals were “very solitary” and aggressive with human contact. The dogs were found with missing hair, covered in fleas and in need of medical attention.

The dogs were taken into the FOGAS program for medical care and future adoption.

“It is quite obvious that these dogs were dumped and left on the side of the road to fend for themselves,” one deputy said. “We don’t know how long they have been out there or what kind of condition these dogs were in prior to being left, but we want to find out.”

Von Coburn and FOGAS are offering a $1000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the individual(s) responsible for dumping the dogs.

Coburn says all tips will be kept “strictly confidential.”

If you have any information about the case please call Lt. Brown with the Sheriff’s Office at 405-260-3205.
