With discs flying through the air at the all new Disc Golf course at Highland Park, members of the City of Guthrie, Guthrie Chamber and community supporters held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday morning.
“There are about 4,000 (disc courses) in the United States and 100 in Oklahoma, but the best is right here in Guthrie America,” Mayor Steve Gentling said standing on hole 18.
“It’s the happening place,” the Mayor echoed.
The course has already seen a great turnout and the first tournament has been set for Sunday, Dec. 4 with the First Capital Classic.
The tournament sold out in a day and a half (90 players). If you would like to get into disc golf then it is easy to get hold of a cheap disk golf set to take to the course.
“That shows you the excitement there is about this park,” co-designer Brian Hibbler said of the 18 hole course.

The course was funded with the help of Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust, Oklahoma Disc Golf Foundation (OKDGF), Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) sales tax and the City of Guthrie.
