OG&E says the latest scam is very sophisticated and is warning customer they never ask for credit card information.
According to a release from OG&E, the scammer poses as an OG&E representative warning of an overdue payment. The customer is provided with a number to call, and when the number is called the customer hears the exact prompts OG&E uses in its Customer Service phone system. No matter which option the customer chooses, he/she is sent to a representative that then asks for credit card payment.
“Remember that we don’t take payments directly over the phone, nor would we ask for your credit card information,” the release says. “When we do call for payment reminder, we’ll direct you about ways to pay by giving a direct number to our credit card vendor, providing information about bill pay kiosks or directing you about how to pay online.
If someone calls claiming to be from OG&E, hang up and contact our Customer Service directly at 800-272-9741. You can always check the status of your account online as well at oge.com.
