The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is closing out the 2011 Oklahoma Highway Safety Office grant year.
The Oklahoma Highway Safety Office (OHSO) receives funds annually from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to promote traffic safety initiatives within the State of Oklahoma.
According to Sheriff Jim Bauman, deputies worked a total of 711 hours of overtime for resulting in a total of 1,182 traffic contacts, including 772 stops for seat belt or child safety restraints, 328 for speeding, 1 for DUI, and 81 for other miscellaneous violations.
In addition to the traffic contacts, deputies conducted two/three Public Information and Education Events during the course of the grant year.
The OHSO solicits applications for highway safety grant projects designed to combat the number and severity of traffic crashes by developing and supporting educational, enforcement, and engineering programs (OHSO Mission). These programs are keyed toward preventing fatalities and reducing injuries on Oklahoma’s streets and highways.
“Deputies have begun the 2012 Oklahoma Highway Safety Office grant year in earnest. The focus of this year’s grant will be reduction of Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. This will be augmented with several combined enforcement periods that will also continue to emphasize the use of seatbelts and child safety restraint systems,” Bauman said.
“We are continuing our efforts to ensure the safety of the citizens of Logan County and to ensure that everyone buckles up every time they get in their vehicle,” Bauman concluded with.
