Construction on Safe Routes to School, near Fogarty Elementary, is now underway.
Safe Routes to School is a grant initiative through the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to help improve pedestrian routes in communities with the purpose of helping kids get to and from school safely.
The City of Guthrie, Guthrie Public Schools and the Logan County Health Department collaborated together to apply for the Safe Routes to School grant, and were successful in obtaining grant funds.
Guthrie City Council recently approved plans for Rudy Construction to begin work.
The sidewalks to be improved run from Wentz Street south of Fogarty to Broad Street, and will reuse the historic brick of the sidewalks wherever possible. Construction is scheduled to be complete in approximately 120 days.
