traffic lightMotorists and citizens of Guthrie have been waiting for this announcement for some time. The City of Guthrie and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation are expected to agree on an annexing agreement that would bring two traffic signal lights to the busy Highway 33 and Interstate 35 corridor.

ODOT requested the City of Guthrie to annex the existing ODOT owned right-of-ways east of I-35 along Hwy 33. Following the completion of the public notice, the Guthrie City Council will entertain the request at the next council meeting set for July 1.

The purpose of the annexation is to allow the City of Guthrie to enter an ownership and maintenance agreement for the possible upcoming installation of traffic signals that are intended to be placed on both the east and west side of I-35 at Hwy 33.

In a statement from the City, “annexation is the first step in the process for the City to ensure a more safe and manageable traffic flow at both intersections.”

After the proposed installation of the signal lights, the City would be responsible for the maintenance of the traffic lights.
