The Job Corps has been a part of the fabric of the Guthrie community since 1966. It attracts students from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, and Louisiana who come here to take the next step in a unique journey of education and self-improvement.
The 350 Job Corps students this Christmas concentrate on one of nine special Career Trades such as culinary arts, health care, computer technology, carpentry, and welding.
Unfortunately, about 30 of these students will not return home for Christmas because they have no home to go to. This is where a “gift opportunity” comes in. As a community, it would be wonderful to invite one of these students into our home for a family meal on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Eat in, eat out, big meal, little meal, it doesn’t matter because this “Special Gift Opportunity” is the sharing of your time.
If you are interested in providing this special gift to a Job Corps student (including transportation to and from the Job Corps Campus), please email Terry Moore at: [email protected] or text him at 405-420-9361 by December 18th with your name, address, phone number, and preferred date/time.
Community members would like to offer this opportunity for all students staying behind at Christmas.
