The Ward 1 city council race is now down to two candidates from a four-candidate race. Menecca Gibbs and Brian Stone will advance to an April 1st election after finishing as the top two vote-getters in Tuesday’s election.
Gibbs led the field with 97 votes (43.69%), followed closely by Stone with 85 (38.29%). Franklin Danley received 22 votes (9.91%), while Robin Crist finished with 18 votes (8.11%).
Voter turnout for the election was 10.63%, with 222 ballots cast out of 2,087 registered voters in Ward 1.
The majority of the votes came from a single precinct, which accounted for 220 of the 222 total votes, while two of the four precincts recorded zero votes and another had just two votes.
Both Gibbs and Stone acknowledged the road ahead leading to the April election.
Gibbs expressed gratitude for the support and acknowledged the tight race.
“Thank you all for your support in the election today! I can say I was nervous all day. Our win was small but mighty! I also would like to commend Robin Crist and Franklin Danley for campaigning and working hard to make a difference. Brian Stone has an awesome community of friends and family that are there to support him, and that comes with amazing admiration. We have a big task ahead to April 1st! We aren’t done yet!!”
Stone also shared his excitement and vision for Guthrie’s future.
“I’m genuinely excited about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead. With your continued support, we will work together to build a stronger, more vibrant community for everyone. The future of Guthrie and its residents are the most important thing on my mind. I look forward to visiting with the people of Guthrie and sharing in their concerns.”
Crist, who will not advance to the next election, thanked her supporters and emphasized her continued commitment to the community.
“I want to take a moment to sincerely thank you for the opportunity to run for city council. While I may not have won this election, I am incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement I received throughout this journey. It has been an honor to engage with so many passionate members of our community and to share my vision for the future.”
