The Guthrie High School tennis season is underway and the teams have two competitions under thier belt. Here is how the season has started.

March 1, 2013
#1 Singles Andy Hartley placed 8th
He won the first round against Putnam North 7-5, 6-1. In the second round he lost to Yukon 6-0, 6-0. In the third round he lost to Norman North 7-6, 6-1. And in the last round he lost to Ardmore 6-2, 6-2
#2 Singles Jacob Ventris placed 14th
In the first round he lost to Deer Creek 6-0, 6-0. In the second round he defeated Altus 6-0, 6-1. In the third round she lost to Yukon 6-0, 6-1. In the last round he lost to Shawnee 6-3, 6-0
#1 Doubles Adam Beery and Dakota Leech won the consolation bracket
In the first round they lost to Putman North 1-6, 6-7. In the next round they defeated Ardmore 6-2, 1-6, 10-8. In the next round they defeated Altus 6-0, 6-3. In the consolation finals they defeated Shawnee 6-2, 6-2
#2 Doubles Joe Kuruvilla and Brandon LaMarche placed 16th
In the first round they lost in three sets to Choctaw 0-6, 7-5, 10-5. In the second round they lost to Harrah 6-0, 6-4 and in their last round they lost to Midwest City 6-3, 6-3.
Carl Albert Girls Tennis Tournament
March 2, 2013 – OKC Tennis Center
#1 Singles Heidi Kuruvilla (Heidi played one singles because Cheyenne Royal was showing her pig) Heidi placed 8th.
Cheyenne Royal, the Lady Jays No.1 player, was unable to compete so Kuruvilla replaced her and won the first round against Chickasha 6-0, 6-2, in the second round she lost to Shawnee 6-0, 6-1, in the third round she lost to Altus 6-2, 6-0. In the last round she lost to Choctaw 6-1, 6-3.
Madison Mize played #2 Singles and placed 14th
She played Norman North in the first round and lost 6-3, 6-0, in the next round she lost to Mid West City and lost 6-1,, 6-0, in her third round she defeated Chickasha 6-3, 7-6.
And in her last round she lost to Ardmore 6-1, 6-0.
Jillian Chappell and Carissa Mathena have placed 3rd at the last two tournaments.

“This was there first time to play together and I was extremely proud of their performance,” head coach Mary Hudson said on the duo.
First round they defeated Harrah 6-0, 6-0, in the second round they defeated Deer Creek in 3 sets, 0-6, 7-5 (12-10), in the semi-finals they were defeated by Ardmore 6-1, 6-0 and in the third place match they defeated Shawnee 6-1, 6-2.
Kaylea Hopfer and Ryan Robbins placed 4th at number 2 doubles
In the first round they defeated Choctaw 6-0, 6-0, in the next round they beat Yukon 6-4, 3-6, 10-7, in the semi-finals they lost to Carl Albert 6-4, 6-2 and in their round for third place they lost to Deer Creek 6-4, 6-4.
Girls Deer Creek Tournament
March 4, 2013
#1 Singles Cheyenne Royal placed 7th
First round she lost to Duncan 6-2, 6-1. Second round she lost to Piedmont 6-3, 6-4. Final round she beat Putnam City North 6-4, 6-0.
#2 Singles Heidi Kuruvilla placed 2nd
First round she defeated Duncan 6-3, 6-2. In the second round she defeated Deer Creek 6-4, 6-3. In the finals she lost the Bishop McGuinness 6-2, 6-0.
#1 doubles Jillian Chappell and Carissa Mathena
First round they lost to Duncan 6-1, 6-3. In the second round they defeated Deer Creek 6-1, 6-3. In the next round they defeated OCS 6-0, 6-3.
In the round for 3rd place they defeated Duncan in three sets. This is the team they lost to in the first round. They lost the first set 1-6, won the second set 6-3 and won the super tie-breaker to win the match 10-6.
#2 Doubles Kaylea Hopfer and Ryan Robbins placed 7th
In the first round they lost to Duncan 6-1, 6-3, in the second round they lost to Perry and in the last round they defeated Putnam City North 6-0, 6-1.
The boys will play at the Deer Creek tournament on Wednesday March 6th
