Three people have been arrested following an investigation into the abandonment of thirty cats. The cats, ranging from newborns to adults, were found in crates at the intersection of Industrial Road and Bachus Road on Monday.

Taken into custody Tuesday afternoon were Brook Wanzer, Jason Wanzer, and Keegan Wanzer, according to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.

Logan County deputies were able to identify a vehicle using (FLOCK) cameras in the area of Industrial and Bachus Road. They then proceeded to the address associated with the vehicle, where they made contact with the suspects. During questioning, the Wanzer’s admitted to abandoning the cats because they felt overwhelmed by the number of animals they were caring for.

The three suspects are now in custody and awaiting booking. Meanwhile, deputies are executing a search warrant at the residence, to see if any additional animals need to be taken to a shelter.

The abandoned cats have been taken in by Helping Community Paws and Claws, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to animal rescue and care, run by Lisa New.

Many community members have come together to help with supplies needed to foster the animals. However, more is still needed, including canned Pro Plan kitten food and clay cat litter. If you would like to send a check to assist, the mailing address is 530 W. Seward Rd. in Guthrie.
