Top-ranked Carl Albert blanks Guthrie 21-0

The buzz surrounding the Carl Albert Titans as they entered Jelsma Stadium on Friday night was their star running back and undefeated starting quarterback. Turns out, the Titans defense is pretty good as well.

The top-ranked and two-time defending state champion Titans rolled through Guthrie with a 21-0 win to win their 29th straight game and improving to 7-0.

The Bluejays drop their first game of the season (6-1) and were held to zero points for the first time since 2016.

With the win, Carl Albert has now won three straight in the series.

Titans struck twice in the first quarter with touchdown passes of 40 and 20 yards from Ben Harris to Anthony Davis.

A final score came early in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard run from Dadrion Taylor.

Guthrie’s offense was unable to sustain any drives throughout the night and finished with just 80 yards total and two turnovers.

The Titans defensive front often made their way into the backfield, while the secondary shut down Guthrie receivers from creating space and getting open.

Despite the two early touchdowns, the Guthrie defense was able contain the Titans offense for majority of the game. Carl Albert was forced to punt five times.

The Titans finished with 264 yards of offense with Taylor picking up 119 yards on the ground with most of those coming in the second half.

Guthrie moves on to play Northwest Classen next week in Oklahoma City before returning home to face Bishop McGuinness.
