Carl Albert took on the top spot in the Class 5A rankings this week and their first defense of the title came against Guthrie – their close friends from the north.
The Titans took their first lead of the game at 6-5 and never looked back with a 71-57 win in Midwest City Tuesday evening. Guthrie falls to 10-8 overall while the Titans improve to 14-4 on the season.
The 12th ranked BlueJays put themselves in the whole with a 19-12 first quarter deficit. The Jays slowed themselves down with 9 turnovers in the first eight minutes, but protected the ball with more precise with seven in the last 24 minutes.
Carl Albert built up six 9-point leads in the game, but only to see Guthrie pull the game back within 4-points on five different occasions. The Titans finally built up a double-digit lead with three minutes to play in the game.
The two teams combined to shoot 46 free throws and the Jays where able to stay in the game with the ability to shoot the 3-point shot as they finished 4-of-8 from the stripe.
