Vehicle pursuit leaves one person tased, two people arrested

An early morning vehicle pursuit in eastern Logan County has landed multiple felony charges for a man and woman.

Just before 5 a.m. Tuesday, Deputy Katlin Long attempted to pull over a yellow Mustang on Highway 105 near Post Road after she noticed the vehicle had gone into the opposite lane three times. However, the Mustang sped up and passed a vehicle causing them to go off the roadway.

With speeds reaching over 100 mph, the vehicle pursuit headed east on the highway.

In the probable cause affidavit, the deputy observed the vehicle’s headlights turn off while traveling at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit continued south on Henny Road before going east on Prairie Grove Road.

With a possible mechanical issue, the vehicle came to a stop.

Deputy Long immediately recognized the driver as 33-year-old Ryan Andrew Boyster as she approached the vehicle with her weapon drawn.

The report states Boyster and his 19-year-old passenger, Ashlyn Grace Ledington, refused to show their hands to the deputy despite being commanded to do so multiple times.

Ledington reportedly was seen tossing a glass pipe out the passenger window and then revealing her hands in the air. However, Boyster continued to reach under the driver’s seat.

The deputy opened the driver’s door and pulled Boyster out of the vehicle. Boyster was able to get away from the deputy and took off running, according to the report.

Long deployed her taser striking Boyster in the chest. As the deputy attempted to put handcuffs on Boyseter, the two struggled on the ground and in the process Long’s handcuffs and taser were lost in the mud.

A second deputy arrived on the scene to help take Boyster into custody.

Long reported injuries to her wrist, finger and arms.

Inside the vehicle, deputies found two white baggies of methamphetamine of four grams each. 17.8 grams of marijuana was also found, which Boyster reportedly said it was for medical purposes and that he had a medical card. The card was not located or provided.

Online records show Boyster with several traffic and drug guilty pleas.

Boyster, whose driver’s license was suspended and revoked, was arraigned on Tuesday with five charges, including assault and battery on a police officer, attempt to elude an officer, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence.

He was given a $75,000 bond.

Ledignton was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing an officer. She was handed down a $25,000 bond.
