A vehicle burst into smoke and flames on Tuesday morning as a child was being transported to school on Guthrie’s west side.
Luckily, the child and the driver of the vehicle were able to get out of the car before the engine became fully-involved.
The Guthrie Fire Department responded just after 7:30 a.m. to the intersection of 8th and College St. The vehicle was in the westbound lane causing traffic to be rerouted around the fire.
Motorists sounded their horn to let the driver aware they saw smoke coming from the engine. Once the driver got out, the flames completely took control.
The fire department needed less than 30 minutes to extinguish the flames.
It was unknown at the scene what may have caused the engine fire.
