Successful school bond issue nearly complete with Phase I

Phase one of the successful Guthrie Public Schools bond issue is drawing close to completion.

Crews were busy Monday beginning the last phase of work at Central Elementary. According to Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson, the latest project at Central, which also received heating and cooling and roof upgrades, will replace all single pane windows on the older portion of the building with energy efficient windows designed to greatly reduce utility costs.

Prior to the work at Central, both Guthrie Upper Elementary Schools and Fogarty Elementary received new roofs.

Phase II includes a new Elementary School (Charter Oak Elementary) in southern Logan County near the intersection of Charter Oak Road and Douglas Boulevard. Phase III renovations include complete reworking of the heating and air conditioning system in the central portion of the High School.

In May 2015, voters of the school district approved a $16.2 million bond issue, which is the largest dollar amount for the district, by the largest margin (77 percent) since 1977. Almost a third of eligible voters participated in the election.

“We understand the trust that has been placed upon us by our district patrons. Consequently, we want to show it was well earned by open and frequent communication as these projects progress,” Simpson said.
