Video: Guthrie sweeps their way to the State Tournament

For the first time since 2014, the Guthrie High School softball program is headed back to the Class 5A state tournament.

Guthrie, who hosted regionals for the first time since 1998, plated five runs in the fifth inning to run-rule Ardmore, 10-0.

Guthrie (23-5) won all three regional games by a combined score of 38-1.

Guthrie has won eight straight and will play Durant on Thursday in the first round of next week’s state tournament in Shawnee (Firelake).

Durant qualified with a home regional win and qualifies for State for the fifth straight season.

The Lady Lions defeated Guthrie, 3-2, back on August 23 in Shawnee.

Karrah Dean got the win in the circle by allowing just one hit while striking seven in five innings of work.

Ardmore was not going to allow Dean a big day at the plate. Ardmore intentionally walked Dean all four times she came to bat, including in the fifth inning with the bases loaded.

The Lady Jays jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a Zoie Morrison RBI single.

Guthrie added four runs in the third inning by taking advantage of Ardmore miscues and a RBI single from Jules Leach.
