The Guthrie Special Jays were sent off in fine fashion on Wednesday morning as they make their way to Stillwater to compete in the 2016 Special Olympic games.
The athletes and their entourage gathered at Guthrie Upper Elementary School (GUES) and were escorted through town and to I-35 by the Guthrie Police Department. The Territorial Riders helped led the escort as well and made the track to Stillwater.
More than 4,600 athletes and 1,500 coaches from across Oklahoma are in Stillwater for the event.
Students at GUES, Fogarty, Guthrie Junior High and Central lined out front of their school holding signs of encouragement as the yellow school bus drove by with athletes waving their hands out the window in appreciation. The Junior High band made it more special by playing the school fight song on the front steps of the school building.
