Voters to cast votes on city council, Guthrie school board on Tuesday

All registered voters within the Guthrie Public School district will cast their vote for the next Board of Education member, while voters in the City of Guthrie (Ward 1) will vote to see who lands in the general election come April.

Voters will decide between Gina Davis and Eddie Lynn for the Ward 6 seat for the county’s largest school district. Despite being in a specific ward, all voters in the Guthrie school district will be allowed to vote.

In a letter Davis said, “I am seeking election to the Guthrie School Board so that I can work to insure that current and future Guthrie students can experience the unique environment that Guthrie can provide while receiving an education that will prepare them for success in any endeavor they choose.”

Davis has four children and following this upcoming May will have all graduated from Guthrie schools.

For Lynn, he has five children who currently attends Guthrie schools.

“Despite the criticisms, public education provides every child a valuable opportunity to succeed in life and it’s our responsibility to ensure we have given them every chance to succeed,” Lynn said in a campaign mailer.

Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

City of Guthrie Ward 1

Three candidates filed for the Ward 1 seat, which is currently held by John Wood, who did not seek a third term. Seeking the position will be Jim Case, Stefani Fortney and Price Purvis.

The three candidates will be on the Feb. 14 primary election ballot. The top two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in the Municipal General Election on Tuesday, April 4, 2017.

Guthrie Chamber of Commerce President Tracy Zserdin recently visited with all three and got an insight on their campaigns.

  1. Be very cautious of someone that doesn’t look people in the eye. It means their not honest.
