Guthrie seniors Walker Cross and Jonathan Ogan wanted to finish first and second together at the Class 5A state track meet just like they wanted to do last fall at the cross country state meet.

While they fell just short of their goal in the fall, they reached their goal at the state track meet at Yukon’s Miller Stadium.

In the 3,200 meter race, Cross pulled away late to take first place, but Ogan needed all he had to edge out East Central’s Brock Artist for second place.

Cross finished across the line with a time of 9:54.60 and Ogan was just behind at 9:59.50.

“We wanted to do it in cross country, but we didn’t get it,” Cross told The Oklahoman following the race. “But now we got it.”

Ogan earned his second All-State achievement in cross country this season with a second place finish while Cross earned his first All-State honor when he finished third overall. In 2011, Cross just missed out on the All-State honor by finishing in 11th.

Cross became the programs (boys and girls combined) 38 All-State athlete in cross country.
