Four standout Guthrie High School athletes took the next step in their athletic and academic journeys on Wednesday, signing their college letters of intent in a ceremony held inside the GHS gymnasium. Surrounded by family, friends, coaches, and teammates, these athletes celebrated their accomplishments and looked ahead to promising futures.
Raley Hooper – Northwestern Oklahoma State University
Track star Raley Hooper committed to Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva. Overcoming a chronic injury, Hooper’s resilience and leadership left a lasting impact at GHS.
“She’s awesome on the track and a great leader around the school. Our team is going to miss her tremendously, but Northwestern is gaining a fantastic athlete and person,” coach Bryce Balenseifen said.
Coach Jake Jensen echoed the sentiment: “A lot of people have poured into her, and she has responded. She made it happen.”
Haley Gallo – University of Central Oklahoma
Softball standout Haley Gallo will continue her career at the University of Central Oklahoma. Known for her reliability, Gallo shined on the field throughout her career.
“She always pulled through,” said softball coach Kara Tarrant. “You can rely on her to do her job whenever you needed her.”
Gallo’s senior season was nothing short of spectacular. Named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State team, she batted an impressive .596 with 59 hits, 12 home runs, and only three strikeouts in 118 plate appearances.
Her final at-bat as a Bluejay? A home run at the Class 5A state tournament.
Ava Hebensperger – Rose State College
Joining Rose State College is versatile player Ava Hebensperger, who excelled both at the plate and in the outfield for the Lady Jays.
“She was vital for us,” Tarrant said. “She had a tough job in the lineup and always came through. She’s a great hitter, a great outfielder, and her arm is outstanding. Rose State is gaining a great asset.”
Hebensperger concluded her senior season with a .416 batting average and 41 RBIs, further solidifying her value to the team.
Kinley Duehning – Rose State College
Pitcher Kinley Duehning also signed with Rose State College after a standout four-year career with the Lady Jays.
“Kinley is going to be a big loss for us,” Tarrant said. “She’s improved her pitches and her mental game tremendously.”
Duehning ended her senior season with 11 wins and a 3.76 ERA, earning All-State First Alternate honors alongside Hebensperger.
The senior class, which included fellow standout Saige Driscoll, leaves behind an incredible legacy at Guthrie High School. Over four years, the Lady Jays compiled a remarkable 102-36 record and made four consecutive trips to the state tournament.
