Watch: Jays, Titans rival showdown set for Friday night

The two-time defending state champion and undefeated Carl Albert Titans will be making their way to Jelsma Stadium for a Friday night showdown with the Guthrie Bluejays. The Titans have many reasons to be confident heading into the state’s top game of the week.

Both Guthrie and Carl Albert enter this year’s match up with identical 6-0 overall records and 3-0 district records. The game marks the 39th meeting between the two programs with Carl Albert holding a 22-16 advantage. In the last 17 meetings, Guthrie has tasted victory 11 times.

You can watch the game here, or on Hot 93.7 FM beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show.

The mighty Titans, who have 13 football titles in program history, comes in on a 28-game winning streak and winners of 33 of their last 34 games. Sophomore quarterback Ben Harris has yet to taste defeat and holds an impressive 20-0 record.

Carl Albert, under second year head coach Mike Corley, has not been tested in the last four games in lopsided wins over Shawnee, Guymon, Piedmont and Northwest Classen. However, in the first two weeks, they got past their Mid-Del rivals Midwest City and Del City in one score games.

Big news out of the Titans camp is the health status of talented running back Dadrion Taylor, who returns following a knee injury in week one.

Taylor, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound senior, rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns in week one before being removed in the fourth with the Titans ahead 28-7.

The playmaker nicknamed “Rabbit” has earned him eight scholarship offers, including Army, Navy, Missouri State and Western Illinois.

A season ago, Taylor returned rushed for 1,977 yards and 22 touchdowns, averaging 9.2 yards per carry.

Taylor and Harris are two of the five players returning to the Titans offense from last year’s team.

Harris, as a freshmen, passed for over 2,700 yards and added 35 total touchdowns.

The Guthrie defense will be challenged in both the run and pass game. The Jays have held their own in the season’s first six games by holding their opponents to 10 points a game, but the bar of where the Jays stand will officially be known after Friday night.
