Watch: Kolten Carlock shines with four touchdowns as Guthrie dominates Duncan 54-12

Head coach Kelly Beeby talks to his defense late in the game against Duncan. Jays won the road contest 54-12.

It’s not often that a Guthrie football player wins back-to-back “Player of the Game” honors with ease, but Kolten Carlock achieved just that with a stellar performance in the Bluejays’ 54-12 road victory over Duncan on Friday night.

The Jays (1-)1 earned their first win of the season, dominating the Demons (2-1) and tying the overall series at 13-13, which dates back to 1978. Guthrie set the tone early, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter and adding four more in the third.

With this win, Guthrie has claimed victory in 15 of their last 17 non-district games dating back to 2020, rebounding from the end of their 11-game non-district win streak in the season opener against Tuttle.

Carlock was the star of the night, racking up four touchdowns. He found the end zone three times on offense and added an 84-yard punt return. The senior quarterback, defensive back, punter, and return specialist tallied 192 total yards, including 98 rushing yards on just eight carries. He also completed a 10-yard pass and caught three passes for 50 yards, including a 32-yard reception from sophomore quarterback Daelon Rice. Carlock’s defensive contributions included a big hit to break up a pass, and recovered a fumble.

Carlock wasn’t alone in shining under the Friday night lights. Junior running backs Elijah Smith and Zane Thomas made significant contributions. Thomas rushed for 168 yards on six carries, scoring two touchdowns on long runs of 67 and 74 yards. Smith added a 44-yard touchdown on the second play of the game, finishing with 102 rushing yards.

Guthrie’s defense was equally impressive, holding Duncan to just 20 rushing yards and 115 total yards while the Bluejays amassed 451 yards of total offense. The game featured five turnovers—three by Duncan and two by Guthrie—and a total of 25 penalties for 200 yards.

Guthrie will wrap up its non-district schedule this week as they hit the road again to face the defending Class 4A state champions, Blanchard.
