Sophomore Wesley Cook was named Guthrie Public School’s February Student of the Month. He was nominated by his teacher Kim Barrett for the character trait of witty.
Wesley, who attends Faver Alternative School, is currently participating in cooking classes with the OSU Extension Office.
He recently won a cookbook for his ability to identify 40 of the 42 cooking utensils on display.
“He is an absolute joy to be around and should be commended for his desire to work hard and continue to pursuing his diploma even through life’s struggles,” Barrett said in her nomination letter.
Each month Guthrie Public Schools and Foundation Insurance team up to find the school district’s student of the month.
Although there are no specific grade requirements, the student must be in good-standing in the classroom to be eligible. Overall, the district says they are searching for students who go above and beyond in the way they treat their peers and teachers.
Blake Wimsey with Foundation Insurance congratulated Wesley and presented him with a$65 gift certificate to Stacy’s Place.
