JustServe.org is helping individuals, families and groups become involved in serving those in need in Guthrie and throughout Oklahoma. Through the JustServe website, individuals may search by zip code to find community needs.
Each project listed can be further sorted by the days and hours volunteers are needed. Additional information such as volunteer age requirements, if any, are listed, as well as an in-depth project explanation and contact information.
Current local projects found on the JustServe website and app include: Brunch on Noble, where volunteers are needed to serve hot meals once a week; the Hands of Jesus Food Pantry, where volunteers help fill grocery orders and stock the shelves; Vision Farms uses volunteers to teach gardening skills such as driving a tractor, and planting and harvesting crops; and Great Escapes, where volunteers help build wheelchair ramps in homes of handicapped individuals throughout Logan County.
Dennis and Colette Datin have been involved with JustServe, serving for many years at the Hands of Jesus Food Pantry. The Datins enjoy giving back to their community and appreciate that they can serve together and with the many friends they have made through volunteering.
“It has been a great way for us to be involved in Guthrie. We have made great friends there and feel good as we serve to help relieve hunger in Logan County,” explained Colette. “We even take our grandkids with us when they are visiting; they love going, too! I would encourage everyone to volunteer in some way as their circumstances permit.”
If you are associated with a nonprofit organization that would like to be included on the JustServe website, you may submit a project on the JustServe site. Questions can be directed to Christine Hurst at (405) 747-0909.
