Many turned out to honor a wounded Guthrie soldier, on Saturday, at the Lazy E Arena. The hero’s tribute helped raise money for the solider and his family that may not be covered by his VA benefits.

Sgt. Rusty Dunagan made a trip back to Guthrie to be honored. Dunagan is spending time in San Antonio to under go rehab.
Hold My Hand — A Hometown Hero Tribute was a 12 hour event that honored Sgt. Rusty Dunagan, who lost both legs and an arm when a roadside bomb exploded while on duty in Afghanistan on September 22, 2010.
The tribute begun with an auction of dozens of donated items from the OKC Thunder and RedHawks, Southwest Airlines flights, stays at Oklahoma hotels, jewelry, signed CDs and books and original paintings.
Entertainers Edgar Cruz, Coles Family Bluegrass Band and Tony Memmel performed as Veterans organizations and businesses had booths set up across the arena floor.
State Representative Jason Murphey will present a Governor’s Citation honoring Dunagan.
You can continue to follow Dunagan’s progress on a website in his honor.
