This past weekend a group of “young marines” spent the better part of their Saturday applying a wood preservative to the fences at the Veterans Memorial and Honor Park in downtown Guthrie.
Steve Gentling, who overlooks the maintenance for the Memorial said, “These young marines worked their butts off in getting that preservative on the fence. It should help extend the life of the fence by a good five or six years and on top of that it really looks goods. Thank you young marines and the adult volunteers for your service to the memorial!”
The Logan County Young Marine Program, sponsored by the Guthrie American Legion Post 58, presents an outstanding opportunity for youth ages eight through 18 to participate in a structured environment promoting mental, moral and physical development.
Lt. Greg Rupert noted, “We focus on character building, leadership and fostering a healthy, drug free lifestyle for both male and female youth.”
Capt. Dan Storm, adult advisor, added “Our key principles are: Honor; Courage; and Commitment. It is a great developmental environment for these kids!”
