$7 million expansion underway at Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport following groundbreaking ceremony

A major investment in the future of the Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport is officially underway following a groundbreaking ceremony attended by federal, state, and local leaders.

The approximately $7 million project will bring a new 5,500-square-foot terminal, nearly doubling the size of the existing facility, along with an additional 150,000 square feet of aircraft parking apron space.

The improvements are designed to accommodate increasing aviation activity, enhance services for pilots and passengers, and strengthen the airport’s role in regional economic development.

Construction is expected to be completed in November 2027.

The new terminal will offer several amenities for pilots, passengers, businesses and the general public.

Among the planned features is a restaurant that will serve airport visitors and local residents, along with an outdoor patio overlooking aircraft arrivals and departures.

The facility will also include a conference room that can serve as a public meeting space and aviation classroom, pilot offices, a 24-hour-access pilot lounge, and office space for the airport’s fixed-base operator and staff.

The additional aircraft parking apron will provide more room for based and visiting aircraft, helping the airport accommodate future growth.

The expansion is being funded through a combination of federal, state, and local investments.

Congresswoman Stephanie Bice secured $6 million in federal funding through a Community Project Funding request. The Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics contributed $500,000, while the Cities of Guthrie and Edmond each committed $250,000.

“It was an honor to join local leaders to celebrate the expansion of the Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport,” Bice said. “I was proud to secure the $6 million in federal funding for this project, which will double the terminal space, provide additional aircraft parking, and improve airport amenities. This is another great example of bringing taxpayer dollars back to Oklahoma to support the important work already being done in our communities.”

The groundbreaking ceremony featured remarks from Bice, State Senator Chuck Hall, State Representative Nicole Miller, Guthrie Mayor Adam Ropp, Edmond Mayor Mark Nash and Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics Executive Director Grayson Ardies.

The Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport already plays a significant role in the regional economy.

According to Oklahoma’s 2026 Aerospace and Defense Economic Impact Study, the airport generates more than $37.2 million in annual economic impact and supports 216 jobs.

The airport is home to several aviation-related businesses, including flight schools, aircraft maintenance operations, Zivko Aeronautics, which manufactures composite aircraft parts, and a pipeline patrol company.

Its 5,001-foot concrete runway accommodates a variety of business and general aviation aircraft, including business jets.

Located near Interstate 35 and outside the more congested airspace surrounding Oklahoma City, the airport provides convenient access for businesses and general aviation operators.

“This new terminal is a great example of how investments in aviation infrastructure can support communities and strengthen Oklahoma’s aerospace industry,” Ardies said. “By expanding facilities and creating more opportunities for aviation education, business, and general aviation activity, Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport is positioning itself to serve the region for many years to come.”

The project also represents another significant investment in the longstanding partnership between the Cities of Guthrie and Edmond.

The two municipalities have jointly sponsored and supported the regional airport since 2004, working together to maintain and develop the facility as an important transportation and economic asset.

Airport Director Caden Young and officials from both cities have worked toward the expansion, which is expected to provide additional opportunities for aviation businesses, education, and future development.

Once completed, the new terminal will serve as a gateway to the Guthrie-Edmond region, welcoming visitors traveling for business, recreation and aviation activities.

With construction now underway, the project marks one of the airport’s most significant infrastructure improvements in recent years.
