Berryman, Bartels qualify for golf state

Two Guthrie High School golf team members will represent their school at the 5A state golf tournament in Tulsa.

On Monday in the Duncan regional, Brayden Berryman and Wyatt Bartels stamped their name in the program after Berryman shot a two-round total of 166 while Bartels scored a 173 on Duncan’s Golf and Tennis Club. To qualify, a golfer must place in the top 10.

Despite the two state qualifiers, the team failed to qualify by placing in the lower half of the team standings. Duncan, Deer Creek, McGuiness, Altus, El Reno and Carl Albert will play for the crown.

Berryman and Bartels will travel back to Duncan for the state tournament set for May 6 and 7. The two-day event will begin with 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
