Blow out was reason for oil rig explosion near Marshall

The Logan County oil rig explosion last week was due to a blow out on the drilling rig.

The explosion sent four people to a Oklahoma City hospital where they are expected to remain for an uncertain time with undisclosed injuries.

Jeremy Fitzpatrick, attorney for Kirkpatrick Oil Company, said blowouts occur when oil or gas escapes from the well during drilling, rises to the surface and sometimes ignites.

Kirkpatrick Oil Company is the operator of the El Dorado Drilling Company oil well that exploded near the town of Marshall.
