First year head coach Chase Langley picked up his first win as the GHS softball coach as he watched pitchers Hannah Dean and Trista LeGrande mow down Tulsa Memorial. Both pitchers are now 1-0 in the circle.

Guthrie collected a 19-0 win in game one of the double-header and a 26-1 drumming in game two at the high school field. Both teams endured warm and humid temperatures.

Lady Jays are now 2-1 overall and 2-0 in district play after dropping their season and home opener to Blackwell, 4-3, in extra innings.

The offensive highlight of the day came from lead-off hitter Bailey Shaffer as she sent a pitch flying over the outfield wall for a grand slam in game one.

To show how dominate Guthrie was in the first game, each spot in the line-up scored twice while Shaffer crossed the plate three times and finished 2-3. Shortstop Madison Dutton, right fielder Josie Watson and Kaycie Carroll each added two hits and two RBI’s.

Game two went about the same as Guthrie took advantage of pitching and fielding miscues and jumped out to 13 runs before LeGrande even went out to the pitching circle.

Guthrie hits the road for the first time in the 2014 season as they travel to Perkins to take on the Lady Demons. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
