BlueJays sweep the Indians on home floor

Both the 7th and 8th grade boys jumped out to big first half leads and cruised in the second half to pick up wins over El Reno on Monday evening inside the Guthrie Junior High gym.

The 7th grade team, who was coming off a Perkins Tournament championship, started off slow with a 6-3 first quarter advantage. However, Guthrie blew the game wide open with a 16-4 second quarter to go into the half up 22-7.

El Reno was unable to find the bucket in the third quarter as the Jays outscored the Indians 8-0 before pulling out the 44-13 win.

Carlos Coppage and Braden Davenport each scored four points in the decisive second quarter on their way to a team high six points along with Ja’lyn Morgan, Kevin Blue, and Corey Miller. Ryan Stevenson and Jaron Pryor each added four and Jeremiah Blackmon, Joshoua Honeycutt, and Chase Bufford all had two points.

8th Grade gets redemption

The 8th grade boys team fell short of a tournament championship just a few days ago and took their frustration out on El Reno with a 47-30 win.

Elliott Curry scored a team high 14 points and was followed closely by Beau Davis 13 points. Jeremy Wallis scored seven, Terran Stevenson added three, and Niles Bracket, Ajanaku, Hagan Wano, Jordan Gross, and J’ahri Gassaway all had two points.

Guthrie jumped out to a 15-2 first quarter lead and a 25-9 halftime advantage.

All four Junior High teams will be back in action Thursday evening when they host Perkins. The four game set starts at 4:30.
