BOE extends superintendent’s contract for three years

The Guthrie Board of Education extended the contract of Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson on Monday night at the regular scheduled February meeting.

Simpson, who has assumed the Guthrie superintendent’s position since July 2012, and the board agreed on a three-year contract extension. It was an unanimous (7-0) vote by board members.

The contract runs through June 30, 2019.

A base salary of $114,604 is set for each year of the contract, along with the cost of premiums payable for family medical, health and hospitalization coverage.

Board President Terry Pennington was quick to point out that Simpson did not request a pay increase.

“There is absolutely no pay increase, whatsoever, for the superintendent in this contract. It should be noted, that Dr. Simpson did not request and has not requested a pay increase due to the severe financial state of the Guthrie independent public school district,” Pennington said.

The contract reads an increase of the base salary could occur if the board deems it appropriate.

In addition to vacation days (15) and sick leave (12 days) annually, the contract allows for a monthly automobile allowance of $250 as additional taxable income for travel within the district.

  1. Maybe he should pay his own car payment. You want to save some money for GPS, give back the $250 a month. Every little bit helps.
