BOE to consider adding slow-pitch softball, junior high soccer

The Guthrie Board of Education will consider adding slow-pitch softball for Guthrie High School students and soccer for students at Guthrie Junior High School.

The proposed additions of adding the extracurricular activities comes as a recommendation from Athletic Director Jon Chappell following student surveys and interest for additional programs.

Both sports are played during the spring sports season.

According to the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association, schools wanting to participate in the 2021 slow-pitch softball season must complete the entry form by Jan. 29.

Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson has recommended approval to the school board.

The interest of adding volleyball (played in the fall) at Guthrie, as an extracurricular activity, continues to gain interest, but no formal action has been taken.

The Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be streamed live on Guthrie News Page.
