A man is expected to face charges after police say he assaulted his sister during an early Sunday morning domestic incident that left both siblings hospitalized.
Emergency crews were dispatched just before 4 a.m. Sunday to the 1600 block of East Garfield Avenue after a caller reported a woman with severe facial injuries had come to the front porch seeking help. The caller told dispatch the woman appeared to have been badly beaten, and everyone inside the home locked the doors while waiting for police and emergency personnel to arrive.
Guthrie police officers and firefighters responded to the scene.
According to Guthrie Police, the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute between a brother and sister. Both individuals were reportedly intoxicated at the time of the altercation.
Police said the brother allegedly assaulted his sister, causing significant facial injuries. Authorities later determined she did not suffer any facial fractures.
During the incident, the man also allegedly stabbed himself twice in the neck. Police said the wounds did not result in permanent injuries.
Both individuals were transported to a hospital for treatment and were expected to be released later Sunday morning.
Police said charges will be presented against the brother out of custody.
A 2-year-old child was inside the residence during the incident but slept through the altercation, according to police. The Oklahoma Department of Human Services was notified, and after consulting with the agency, the child was released into the care of a grandmother.
Police have not released the identities of those involved.
