Talk about it in The Crimson Corner

Kentrell Brothers, the nation’s No. 38 outside linebacker prospect and No. 10 recruit in Oklahoma’s 2011 class, is set to visit Arizona State officially for its home opener Sept. 4, Brothers told ASUDevils.com in a phone interview Sunday.

Outside linebackers prospect Kentrell Brothers has two official visits set

“I visited Arizona State a couple months ago and then they offered,” Brothers said. “I don’t want this to sound like I wasn’t interested but I was actually going to (the University of) Arizona for a visit but on the way I wanted to go to ASU so we went ahead and stopped there and it turned out to be a pretty good trip.

“Coach Trent Bray, I like the way he works with his linebackers, everything he does in practice. It mimics what you do on the field so when it comes time to do it in the game it’s like you do it all the time. That stood out when I went to ASU when he showed me film.”

The relationship with ASU began when Brother sent film to the Sun Devils’ coaches and received positive feedback. He built a relationship with Bray and his father, defensive coordinator Craig Bray, which eventually led to the visit and a scholarship offer.

Brothers, a 6-foot-0, 207-pounder who plays standup defensive end at Guthrie High School, said that he also spends some time as a weakside linebacker and that’s the position most colleges are recruiting him to play.

“I have 15 offers right now,” Brothers said. “Missouri, Tulsa, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas state, UCONN, Vanderbilt, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State, Duke, Iowa State, Ohio and Syracuse. Right now I’m still considering everybody. The race is pretty much wide open.”

In addition to the ASU visit, Brothers said he has also set a trip to Washington for its home game on Sept. 11.

“The most important thing is graduating,” said Brothers, when asked about what he’s looking for in a college. “I want to get a good education from whatever schools I go to and I want to make sure I graduate. I want to have all the coaches be good coaches, I want them to be honest but I want them to be on my butt to help me succeed.

“I want to be around good players, not talent-wise, or athletically wise, just as far as how they are as people. I want to be around players who act well and have good behavior. I don’t want to be around a lot of people who get in trouble.”

Brothers said his team, which went 8-5 last year and reached the state semi-finals, recently finished two-a-days and is getting into regular practices.

“We don’t have a lot of talent but we basically have the toughest kids in state,” he said. “We all work really hard and listen and try to get better. We aren’t that athletic but we look really good. Our defensive coordinator, coach (Kelly) Beeby, he’s probably the best in the state.”
