Car crash overnight kills one person south of high school

One person was killed in an overnight, single vehicle accident inside the Guthrie city limits.

Emergency crews responded to Highway 77 (Wentz St.) south of Guthrie High School shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, officers found a 1998 Nissian Maxima had crashed on the west side of the highway.

Officials say the dark blue Maxima was driving northbound at a high rate of speed and somehow lost control of the vehicle, cross the center line and crashed into trees.

The driver, Allen Edge, 25, of Guthrie was pronounced dead at the scene and was released to the Medical Examiner.

According to a police report, the impact of the collision tore driver side doors off and caused Edge to be ejected from the vehicle.

The Guthrie Police Department cleared the scene at 6:45 a.m. and continues to investigate the crash.

Memorial services for Edge will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 23 at the First Christian Church. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
