Happy Fourth of July!! The merchants are going to have “The Great American Sidewalk Sale” from 10 a.m .to 6 p.m. on the Fourth of July! The General Store located at 113 West Oklahoma Avenue is celebrating their grand opening and have secured PLP Food Truck and music for the day. Many visitors travel during the Fourth of July looking for fun things to do so the merchants thought this would be something new and different.

The Guthrie Farmer’s Market is increasing in size, last week there were eight vendors. I have spoken with at least two more local farmers and another in Hennessey that wants to bring in USDA farm fed beef to sell. Right now fresh green beans and new potatoes are hot! We had sweet corn, sand plums, cantaloupe, watermelon, bell, banana and Anaheim peppers, yellow squash, zucchini, patty pan squash, cucumbers, leeks, onions, tomatoes and fresh eggs!  We are now set up to take Access and Snap cards! Your card will be swiped and exchanged for Market Money to spend with the local farmers!

Do you remember Draggin Main in High School and Jr. High? Back in the late 50’s through 70’s we drove down Oklahoma Avenue to the Scottish Rite Temple and made a left on Capital Street to Cleveland then another left on Walnut, (or visa a versa) and back to Oklahoma Avenue then down to Sonic and just kept repeating all night long until we found a good party to hit. Previous years everyone was allowed to make a U turn in front of the Temple while in the 50’s I was told folks drove down to the Santa Fe Depot to make their loop (that was before Sonic was around). A group got together five years ago in hopes of reliving those good ole’ days and now it’s becoming an annual tradition. First Street will be blocked off between Oklahoma and Harrison Avenue from 5pm to 7pm, Saturday the 5.  Everyone will mix and mingle then around 7 p.m. everyone will Drag Main!

Monday, July 7, Legends Food and Spirit is donating 10% of their food sales back to an event that is going to happen on the 12 and 13 of July. The event is called Skate Ritzhaupt and will be held at the Ritzhaupt Park on 16 and Noble. Skater Brian Sumner, who skated with Tony Hawk, will be in town to share his story. Activities are lined up for two days for all of the skaters who attend. By the way, Legends has live entertainment on their Patio most weekends.

Congratulations to Make Guthrie Weird on their one year anniversary and to Halftime Grill for their five year anniversary last week.

Next week’s Chamber Coffee will be hosted by the American Legion at their location, 123 N. First Street. Everyone is welcome to join us anytime from 9:30 – 10 a.m.
