In January, the City of Guthrie will have a new city attorney after 18 years as Randel Shadid announced his upcoming retirement.
Shadid informed the city council that he will be retiring as the Guthrie City Attorney effective the end of December 2018.
“There have been trials and tribulations but I have enjoyed the position, enjoyed the governing body, the staff and the many relationships with past council members. Guthrie has a great future,” Shadid said in a release.
In 1979, Shadid was elected to the Edmond city council, and he went on to serve 16 years before being elected Edmond’s mayor in 1991.
Shadid has served as the City of Guthrie’s attorney since 2000.
City Manager Leroy Alsup says his staff is in the process of preparing a formal RFP (Request for Proposal) to solicit proposals from attorneys that are interested in serving as the Guthrie City Attorney. The RFP will be publicly distributed once it is complete.
The next city attorney must earned at least four votes from the city council.
The city attorney heads the legal department and is responsible to the city council and city manager. In addition, the attorney represents the City as counsel in litigation in all courts,
