City of Guthrie announces eastside water tower painting project

Guthrie residents will soon see significant improvements to the city’s water infrastructure as G&L Construction begins work on the eastside water tower. This vital project, funded by CIP No. 2 and part of the “Growing Guthrie” initiative, is designed to enhance the reliability of water service while upgrading the city’s infrastructure.

Crews are expected to arrive on January 8, with the project officially kicking off on January 13 when the tower is drained. The work will involve sandblasting the existing paint from both the interior and exterior of the tower, followed by a complete repainting. The sandblasting phase is anticipated to take three to four weeks, depending on weather conditions, with the painting phase requiring an additional three to four weeks.

During the project, residents in the vicinity of the water tower should prepare for temporary noise disruptions as the sandblasting process will generate significant noise, particularly during daytime working hours. The City of Guthrie is also encouraging residents to conserve water during this time to help maintain adequate water pressure and supply.

While the eastside tower undergoes these upgrades, the westside water tower will remain operational, ensuring continued water service for the community. Any residents experiencing low or no water pressure during the project are advised to contact Public Works at (405) 282-8400. After-hours emergencies can be reported through dispatch at (405) 282-3535.

This project represents Guthrie’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure improvements, with plans already in place to begin similar upgrades to the westside water tower later this summer. The City of Guthrie appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation during these necessary improvements and will provide regular updates through its website and social media channels.
