Community Garden: Elves partying in the Community Garden

It’s Christmas time in the Garden. The weather is cold. The skies are clear and the animals are all huddled by the building to keep warm.

Mark SpradlinIt is three in the morning and I am doing one of my city drives and I notice a lot of activity in the garden. It couldn’t be happening again this year. Santa is way too busy to come back for another visit. I pull in next to the red building and hear music, see lots of movement in the form of shadows, and some light coming from the back of the building. I sneak around expecting to see Santa and his sleigh and all his reindeer. But NO! That isn’t what it is at all.

I have never seen or even heard of this before. I will admit that a lot of weird goings on happens in the Guthrie Community Garden, but this is one for the record books. I guess Rudolph went home to the North Pole last year and told all the Elves what had happened at the garden. I think he embellished it a little bit, but that doesn’t matter now. There were probably five hundred elves in the garden. Now come on, you know that it is completely possible for this to happen.

Remember that an elf is extremely tiny and they can fly and hover and do all kind of acrobatic maneuvers. So here are these six hundred elves all partying like I have never seen. Dancing and drinking some kind of punch that changes color from red to green and depending on the color when they drink it depends on how high they can jump in the air. They are all over the place. The boss elf saw me and recognized me from Rudolph’s description and he came over and looked up at me, took a drink of the green stuff and jumped up and hovered at eye level and began to explain how they were glad they had found a place to let their hair down. They had worked all year and this was their only night off and they wanted to celebrate. It looked like they were doing a good job of it.

The problem is that all of their partying had started to draw a crowd. I had a feeling this was not going to end well. I had never seen some of these people before but they said they had come looking for Santa. They wanted to see if he stopped again this year. Instead they saw eight hundred elves that were throwing a wild party after a year of toy making for Santa. Everyone just stood and watched. Then there was a noise overhead and everything got quiet. You could hear the HO HO HO and see the red flashing light so you knew it was Santa. As Santa landed the elves hid. Santa made sure he did not let the reindeer eat any cabbage from the garden this year.

I guess he didn’t enjoy the ride home last year.
