The Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Football Foundation announced GHS senior Conan Maltz as one of their 10 High School Scholar Athlete Award recipients.

The winners are based on their performance on and off the field. Maltz will receive a scholarship worth $1,000.

Maltz and other recipients will be honored on Feb. 3 at the Jim Thorpe Award Banquet.

“Conan is an outstanding young man and very deserving of this recognition,” GHS Principal Chris LeGrande said.

“His commitment to excellence is displayed both in the classroom and on the football field. We are extremely proud of him and his accomplishments.”

Academically, Maltz is ranked number one in his senior class with a 4.0 grade point average and is one of three GHS candidates for Academic All-State consideration.

On the football field, Maltz helped lead the BlueJays to a 2013 state championship team anchoring the right guard position. For his efforts in the 2014 season, he was named to the District 5A-2’s First Team Offense.

Maltz has been accepted and is expected to choose between Air Force and Navy for college.

Other recipients throughout the state, including Tanner Bowman of Cherokee, Joe Castiglione Jr. of Mount St. Mary, Jacob Lemons of Quinton, Tate Milroy of Morris, Aaron Pierce of Alva, Jacob Rapp of Choctaw, Alexander Ray of Bartlesville, Braden Sweet of Perry and Taylor Witham of Miami.
