June 24, 2011
In a previous update I mentioned that in May we received notice from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation that a pre-work conference to review plans for paving 3.5 miles of Western Ave. was scheduled for June 7.
I attended the June meeting hosted by ODOT at their Stillwater Residency and met with transportation officials and members of Atlas Paving Company to discuss materials, equipment and scheduling for the
project.
At the meeting, Atlas announced a start date of July 5. They indicated the time frame for completing the multi-mile project, which begins at Waterloo and extends 1/2 mile north of Simpson Rd., may require
approximately one month. This depends, of course, on Oklahoma weather.
Prior to paving, Atlas will perform deep patch work to stabilize the existing road base and eliminate areas of weakness in the roadway. Some milling and fly ash stabilization will take place on previously unpaved portions of the project.
After paving, safety striping will be applied by Direct Traffic Control of Muskogee and a company from El Reno will supply solid slab sodding as needed. Atlas indicated they will use a pilot car for traffic control during the project.
Plans for paving Western have been underway for some while so it is good to be so near the start date. Please bear with us during the construction phase and exercise caution while the project is underway.
